Andrew Dean joined the law firm of Patten, Wornom, Hatten & Diamonstein, L.C. after practicing law at a commercial litigation firm in Southwest Florida.  He graduated from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. and is an attorney with the firm’s Complex Commercial and Employment Litigation Practice Group.  After spending several years with Patten Wornom’s Complex Commercial Litigation and Employment Law practice groups, Mr. Dean stepped away from the firm to serve as General Counsel to the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Directorate for Science and Technology Directorate, where he provided counsel to DIA’s Science and Technology divisions on subjects related to import export control, digital exploitation, DFARs, FARs, Other Transactional Authorities (or OTAs), and a range of Research, Development, Test & Evaluation subjects. 

Andrew has extensive experience litigating cases in Virginia and Florida state and federal courts. His practice areas include complex commercial litigation cases involving science and technology (digital, biological, chemical, government contracts), export control, commercial construction, and tort, and employment and privacy related claims.  

Andrew graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from California Polytechnic State University after which he completed Navy Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. After receiving his commission as an officer in the United States Navy, Andrew was assigned to fly the F/A 18 Super Hornet Strike Fighter Jet in Lemoore, CA. Andrew is currently a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Reserve where he serves as a Cryptologic Warfare Officer assigned to Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command’s reserve unit.



Mr. Dean has worked in the United States Senate for the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations examining whistleblower allegations against government and private entities and recently returned to the Firm from serving as General Counsel to the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Directorate for Science and Technology.  Mr. Dean has extensive experience helping clients and stakeholders navigate the complexities of state and federal court.
