South T. Patterson is a business and financial attorney whose practice areas include corporate and transactions law. Mr. Patterson serves as counsel to many business and professional clients in the Tidewater area, including contractors, developers, financial institutions and medical practices. He routinely handles new entity formations, business acquisitions and sales, loan transactions, contract negotiations and drafting, real estate development and other commercial matters. Mr. Patterson also actively practices in the areas of estate planning and estate administration law.
Mr. Patterson joined the law firm of Patten, Wornom, Hatten & Diamonstein (formerly Patten, Wornom & Watkins) in 1991. He became a member of the firm in 1996. Mr. Patterson is a longtime resident of the Virginia Peninsula and a graduate of Hampton High School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, and a Juris Doctorate degree from the Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary.
Mr. Patterson served on the Board of Directors of the Association for Retarded Citizens of the Peninsula, Inc. from 1992 through 1997, and as the President of that Board from 1996 through 1997. He has also taught classes for the local chapter of the American Institute of Banking. Mr. Patterson currently serves as a member of the Mariners’ Museum Corporate Council, the Executive Board of the Colonial Virginia Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Board of Governors of the Virginia State Bar Business Law Section. He is listed in the Business section of the 2004 Virginia Business Legal Elite, and is also a member of the Newport News Bar Association, the York Country Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar.
